Brickfields - Radlett's Incomparable New Build
27th Nov 2013
Located within minutes of Radlett’s town centre, in a rural Green Belt setting with boundless views over surrounding fields, the design of Brickfields is the result of visionary North West London interior design, build and architecture firm, Living In Space.
Renowned for creating home environments that are tailored to the needs of its clients, the company makes use of a skilled design team to create beautifully bespoke interiors to exact requirements. From concept to completion, Living In Space has built a reputation for exceptional design in some of London’s most prestigious locations. And its latest project is nothing less than exceptional!
Set behind a bridleway approximately 300 metres from the main road, Brickfields perfectly combines progressive, sustainable design and renewable energy.
Consisting of a North and South Wing, and a central Kiln, the entire house makes use of an abundance of glass windows in order to emphasise the extraordinary surrounding views and natural light.
Much of the available space has been dedicated to the ground floor living areas which are ample. The extensive kitchen, designed by Lauren Nicholas, sits at the centre of the open-plan area. Beautifully finished in Tranche Oak and Composite Stone, it features A+ rated appliances including an integrated wine cooler, dishwasher, fridge and freezer, and double sink.
The ground floor also houses an open-plan dining and living area, and a formal lounge which has direct access to the garden. Beautifully landscaped gardens surround the entire property, accentuating its unique design.
On the upper level, the North and South Wings feature two en-suite bedrooms (with a study in the South wing). Each wing is linked by an enclosed glass walkway which allows access to the roof terrace with its adjacent drinks bar. The generously sized terrace is accessible from both sides of the home and offers uninterrupted and breathtaking views of the lush countryside.
The Kiln is the home’s most prominent design element and houses the master suite, formal living room, and cinema room.
The master bedroom is an example of meticulous design and features a curved wall of windows which makes the most of the incredible views, a walk-in wardrobe and dressing area, and an en-suite bathroom finished with exquisite fixtures and fittings.
The Kiln also provides access to the basement, an extensive area which includes a heated swimming pool, changing room and separate WC, the above-mentioned cinema room and adjoining bar, wine cellar, utility room, gym, steam room, a sixth bedroom with en-suite bathroom, and the plant room.
While the house is clearly visually appealing, security has also been prioritised. The home, along with a double garage and three further visitor parking spaces, is set behind electric gates which are monitored by multiple CCTV cameras located around the property.
A key factor of the property’s design is sustainability, with the home being built to Code Level 5. At approximately 8,000 sq. ft. and featuring 6 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, and numerous recreational facilities, its sustainable design means that the property is essentially self-sufficient, resulting in minimal annual running costs which are estimated to be less than £1,000 per year.
With meticulous attention to detail, every area of the property has been designed to be functional, and makes use of finishes and fixtures of the highest specifications. This includes the audio visual system where key functions throughout the house can be altered and adjusted from the home owner’s phone or iPad.
To complement the interiors, Brickfield’s exterior boasts a landscaping plan which is contemporary but in keeping with the space and its surroundings. Perfectly suited for entertaining, these areas can be accessed directly from the internal living spaces and includes a dedicated BBQ area.
Due to be completed by the end of February 2014, Brickfields embodies modern design while exuding warmth and character. While aesthetics are clearly of importance, form and functionality are the key to this unique home.
