Heronslea's New ‘Village Green' Development In Bushey Receives Planning Consent
25th Oct 2013
It’s an extremely rare occurrence nowadays that a new residential development comes equipped with its own ‘village green’, but that’s exactly what is planned in Bushey, Hertfordshire by locally-based developer, Heronslea. They have received Planning Consent from Hertsmere BC for this exciting new development of 53 homes in the heart of Bushey.
On a derelict NHS site, they will create a new community around a delightful ‘village green’ which is set to become the heart of this attractive new residential neighbourhood – called Windmill Green. The new community will be a mix of 1, 2, 3 and 4-bedroom homes, with 10 of them being affordable family housing to help meet local needs.
The 2.4 acre site, which has been a local ‘eyesore’ for over 2 years, originally housed the Windmill House care home which was then closed and sold by Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust. After a lengthy bidding process, Heronslea successfully bought the site and began to work with their planning consultants, Preston Bennett, Hertsmere Borough Council and local residents to transform the site into a lasting residential neighbourhood that would enhance the local environment and become a flagship development for Bushey.
“Hertsmere’s next phase of their Core Strategy required housing to be within the urban area so as to protect the Green Belt - which makes up a significant 80 percent of the borough. Windmill Green satisfies this key requirement and is totally compliant with the NPPF policy of providing sustainable development on a previously developed vacant site,” said Richard Henley MRTPI, Planning Director of Preston Bennett.
Windmill Green is thus set to become a development with high quality design, materials and landscaping that is rarely seen within the U.K. today. It comes fully future-proofed with a totally protected ‘village green’, that will never be under pressure from future development!
“We are extremely delighted that this innovative scheme has received Planning Consent and that the detailed work that we have undertaken over the past eight months has resulted in this landmark residential development becoming a reality for completion by Spring 2015,” said Heronslea Director, James Craig.
“Our extensive consultations with Hertsmere BC planners; ward and borough councillors; local residents and other interested parties means that this well-designed new community around a ‘village green’ is set to become an area of civic pride for many years to come. We want to create something unique and different from the staid formulaic crowded developments that we see too often in our towns and villages.
“This large and important development for Bushey will add a new flavour to the area and provide both new and existing residents with a flagship neighbourhood of which they can all be proud. The mix of homes - houses and apartments - plus the quality of Heronslea design and build, will bring much needed new life to a corner of Hertfordshire that will soon echo to the sound of residents enjoying life on and around their new ‘village green’, “ continued James Craig.
