With the help of a Spitfire and Hurricane which flew overhead, the museum - which is located in the Mansion House of Bentley Priory - was opened with great fanfare by the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

Prince Charles - who is patron of the Bentley Priory Battle of Britain Trust - also unveiled a bust of Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding at the infamous Grade II-listed Mansion House. As Fighter Command's leader, Dowding’s strategy helped Britain defeat Germany's planes, ultimately averting Hitler's planned invasion of the British Isles.

The royal couple met with war veterans including female fighter controllers, and veterans of the air throughout the morning.

Built in the late 18th Century, Bentley Priory served as RAF Fighter Command's headquarters during World War II, and was the RAF headquarters until 2007. The site is currently undergoing restoration, and is being redeveloped into a scheme of luxury apartments and houses, the design of which are in keeping with the authentic feel of the area.

Located just 30 minutes from Central London, Bentley Priory is a combination of elegance and tranquillity, offering the benefits of luxurious country living while being within easy reach of the City.

This landscaped 57 acre estate, which boasts mature woodlands and miles of new and restored footpaths, is home to a collection of exquisite homes which overlook the breathtaking gardens and grounds.

With prices starting at £839,000, each home has been designed to complement the original architecture of the Mansion House which dates back to 1775. While every space has been sympathetically designed, each luxurious property is complete with the best in contemporary features and amenities. This seamless blend of heritage features and modern design results in unique home’s which incorporate innovative design and distinct interiors.

Along with the exquisite finishes and inspired design, Bentley Priory’s fundamental appeal lies in its unrivalled location. As one of the most prestigious residential developments in the UK, the extensive site boasts panoramic views across London and perfectly manicured Italianate gardens.

The site lies within easy reach of numerous restaurants and shops, road, rail and tube links, places of worship, various golf courses and renowned schools.

With its rich history, Bentley Priory has been home to royalty, has functioned as a meeting place for numerous political and literary figures, and has served its country during World War II. Today it is being painstakingly restored to function as special address for a lucky few.
