Harrow's 'Hub' to get a new lease of life?

‘The Hub’ is a prominent, but vacant, building adjacent to Harrow-on-the-Hill station that has been unsuccessfully seeking new office tenants for over two years.
Now, the owners of the 8-storey building have secured three major new tenants with the assistance of Tony Chamberlain of Chamberlain Commercial and they have commissioned Preston Bennett Planning to apply for change of use - to provide education, leisure and retail uses - to once again make ‘The Hub’ a vibrant focus of activity for the centre of Harrow.
“As letting agents for The Hub, we are extremely pleased about this move to bring back this long redundant office building into meaningful use,” said Tony Chamberlain of Chamberlain Commercial.
The tenants waiting to move in are:
St Patrick’s College of London - A 200-year old institution, owned by the prestigious London School of Business and Finance, will occupy the top 5 floors.
The Gym – one of the fastest-growing fitness chains in Britain – on two open-plan floors.
Tesco Express – a 6,000 sq.ft convenience store that will enhance the frontage on College Road.
“This mixed use Planning Application meets all Harrow’s initiatives in bringing a substantial vacant building back into economic use with important wider benefits for the town centre as a whole,” said Nick Stafford MRTPI, Associate Director of Preston Bennett, Stanmore.
“It is an important regeneration initiative that will not only bring major economic benefits to the town centre but also provide increased employment opportunities for local residents.”
The increased activity will not only benefit the town centre as a whole as a result of linked trips bringing additional activity and expenditure to local businesses, but also will provide local workers and residents with new shopping and leisure facilities.
“This fits within the Council’s Core Strategy ‘Spatial Vision’ for Harrow and we hope that it will meet the approval of the Planning Committee so that ‘The Hub’ can enjoy a positive future from this proposed new lease of life!” said Nick Stafford.
