When the clock struck midnight on 31st October, 10 intrepid adventurers from Preston Bennett set out into the unMown!
Full of fear, trepidation and anxiety for what lay ahead, they Moved forward with a stiff upper lip, ready to face the challenges of what the next Month would bring.
The Mo-Bennetts - as they have come to be known - had little inkling of what ticklish challenges waited for them in their pursuit of the perfect
Mo-ustache in support of Mo-vember, the men’s cancer charity.
Nothing daunted them in their quest to add the peak of hirsute elegance to the space between the bottom of their nose and their mouth.
And, in order to encourage their Monumental efforts, sponsors were quick to add to the coffers of Movember!
So, much so that the Mo- Bennetts have raised over £ 3,000 during the Month – a Monumental sum that reflects the trials and tribulations of these worthy men.
Some thought that nothing would grow on their baby-faces, others that it would show the true colours of their hair (and perhaps of a milkman past…). Others saw it as an opportunity to gain an extra few minutes waking up time, or even to join The Village People…..
They have all done exceptionally well with one or two minor casualties along the way.
Daniel Harris got married on the 27th November so had to shave it off -otherwise his wife-to-be would not have been able to recognise him! Also, Lee Martin – who had cultivated a potentially magnificent neat D’Artagnan moustache and goatee – was half asleep one morning when he took a razor to his moustache and realised…too late… that he had shaved it off: with only one day to go!
Various names have emerged for the Mo-Bennetts during the growing period of their ‘caterpillar’: Poirot (Scott McNicholas); Super Mario (Mark Rubin); Biggles (Tony Stone); Yosemite Sam (Richard Henley). Nick Stafford entertained the world with his Mog (Movember blog) and gave his growth the name Farah (wait a Mo…that rings a bell, but only on the last lap…)
The consensus among the Mo-Bennets’ WAGs was a definite ‘Mo Mo’ and only Scott and Mark have expressed any desire to keep their ‘tache after the event!
