Oh what a night! Raising over £35,000 for the Sam Keen Foundation
10th Sep 2012
Attended by over 300 people, the evening raised over £ 35,000 for melanoma research, which took the Foundation well over their initial target, to £120,000.
The guests enjoyed an evening of food, cocktails and entertainment and included an auction and raffle which swelled the coffers. One lucky winner has the opportunity to have dinner with Danny De Vito, now playing in London in ‘The Sunshine Boys’.
Sue Fisher, M.D. of Preston Bennett, welcomed the guests and introduced the keynote speaker, Professor Martin Gore from the Royal Marsden Hospital, who was Sam’s oncologist. He announced that funds raised by the Sam Keen Foundation would be used to establish a ground-breaking research fellowship which would begin the process of developing and testing a new drug to combat malignant melanoma.
“We were delighted to work with the Keen family and to have generated this extremely generous and supportive response from everyone at the Gala. It was an extremely successful event and I know that Sam would have been so proud of what has been achieved so far in his name,” said Sue Fisher.
The next key event in support of the Sam Keen Foundation is the Preston Bennett Golf Day at Porter’s Park, Radlett on September 5th. Over 80 golfers are taking part and it is hoped that another substantial sum will be raised.
