Downsizing couple find ideal home at lakeside development Stanmore Place

Retired married couple Seyed Alavi, 76, and his wife Ada Alavi, 74, knew that downsizing to a modern, easy to maintain property was key to enjoying their later years. Mr and Mrs Alavi who have been married for 46 years, moved into a 3-bedroom, £555,000 home at Stanmore Place’s Carnarvon Court in late 2016. They downsized from their 4-bedroom period property located 10 minutes away in Canons Park, and both already know they made the right decision.

“We had lived in our last home for 37 years,” Mr Alavi explained. “But it had become too big for us. Our two sons left home years ago, and we knew as we got older a large house and garden would be increasingly difficult to manage. We are both active people, and decided to move to an easy to maintain new build before we reached an age where moving would be too much of an upheaval. We also wanted to release some equity in our former home to fund our retired lifestyle. We were aware of Stanmore Place because we lived nearby and fell in love with it the first time we visited. We moved in in late 2016 after selling our former home for £660,000, and are delighted with our decision.”

“Our home at Stanmore Place was ready to move into with all the main appliances,” Mrs Alavi said. “The living space is perfect and everything is on one level so we won’t need to worry about climbing stairs as we get older. We still have two spare bedrooms so our family can stay whenever they want. Being a few moments-walk from Canons Park tube station was also important to us because we wanted to be able to travel to Central London easily without having a long walk to a station. From our new home we can reach Bond Street in 25 minutes. Tesco, and an array of shops and restaurants are also just around the corner which is very convenient.
 
“Stanmore Place’s beautiful landscaping was another main draw for us. There is a lake, water features and well maintained gardens that will make relaxing outside in the summer very enjoyable. The sense of community and the well-lit, tidy streets mean we feel very secure here too. Everybody is friendly and there are lots of opportunities for residents of all ages to get to know each other. The Estate Manager recently organised a residents’ ‘bring and bake party’, while many residents also take part in the monthly bird spotting walk in Canons Park which is very beautiful and just a few minutes’ walk away,” Mrs Alavi continued.

“It makes life so much easier for us,” Mr Alavi said. “For example, when we had heavy packages containing furniture delivered shortly after we moved in the concierge would bring them into our home for us. Mr and Mrs Alavi purchased their property at Stanmore Place off-plan and say the process was much easier than they had anticipated thanks to the support they received from St Edward. 
 
“The whole process was really easy and everyone was very helpful,” Mr Alavi said. “The Sales Team talked us through the floor plans, specification and showed us a model which demonstrated exactly where our property would be. The Customer Relations Manager and ensured we were always kept informed and the after sales service has been excellent, like when the friendly handyman fit our shelves and put our pictures up. If we ever have any problems with the property we know they will be resolved immediately. There were so many things that could have gone wrong at our former home that we would have needed to resolve ourselves. It’s great not to have to worry about this anymore.”
